API Inspector Salary in the Gulf and India (2026): What the Data Actually Shows
What API inspectors are paid in the Gulf and India: published salary data, real Saudi job-advert packages, and the factors that actually move pay.

"How much does an API inspector earn?" is one of the most searched questions in our field, and one of the worst answered. Salary sites quote averages from a handful of entries, job adverts quote basic pay without the package, and forum posts quote whatever happened to one person.
This guide pulls together what is published, says where each number comes from and how much weight it can carry, and explains what actually moves an inspector's pay. All figures were checked on 7 October 2026. Salaries change quickly, so treat them as a guide, not a promise.
Short answer: Naukrigulf reports API inspector pay in the UAE ranging from AED 6,500 to 16,000 a month, averaging about AED 10,480, with Dubai and Bahrain highest among Gulf locations. Saudi recruitment adverts we found ranged from SAR 3,500 for a fresher with one API certificate (plus food, housing and transport) to SAR 6,500 basic for eight years' experience, while shutdown work was advertised at SAR 43 an hour. Certifications, experience, the employer type and the package decide where you land.
What published salary data shows
Naukrigulf's API inspector page for the UAE gives a range of AED 6,500 to 16,000 a month, with an average of about AED 10,480 for people with 5 to 21 years' experience. It notes the estimate is based on 10 recent salaries, which is a very small sample. By experience, it reports about AED 8,500 for those under six years, and around AED 10,100 to 10,200 for both mid-career and senior inspectors.
That last point is worth pausing on: in a small sample, seniority alone does not seem to lift pay much. What tends to separate inspectors is what they hold and the kind of work they do, covered below.
What job adverts actually offer
Public recruitment adverts give a different picture from self-reported salaries, because they usually show basic pay for agency or contract roles. Four Saudi examples we found, with employers not named:
- Fresher to one year, mechanical background and one API certificate: SAR 3,500 a month plus SAR 500 food allowance, with accommodation and transport provided.
- Two years or more, with valid API 510, 570 and 653 all required: SAR 4,000 to 5,000 a month.
- Eight years, API 510 or equivalent, static equipment: SAR 6,500 basic, with food, housing and transport free.
- Shutdown inspectors for a 30 to 45 day turnaround: SAR 43 an hour on 11-hour duty, roughly SAR 470 a day while the shutdown runs.
The gap between these adverts and the self-reported averages above is normal. Averages include experienced staff on direct contracts with allowances; adverts often show the starting point for agency roles. Always compare the full package: basic pay, housing, transport, food, overtime, leave, flights and contract length.
India
Indian salary data for API inspectors specifically is thin and varies widely by employer. AmbitionBox's broader inspection engineer data for oil and gas shows a range of about ₹2.5 lakh to ₹15 lakh a year. Refinery hubs and EPC centres tend to pay at the upper end, and roles with Gulf postings or international third-party inspection pay more than domestic site roles. This difference is one reason many Indian inspectors build experience at home and then move to the Gulf.
What moves an inspector's pay
- The certifications you hold together. Many Gulf adverts ask for API 510, 570 and 653 together, and some add CSWIP, ASNT NDT levels or AMPP credentials. Each extra relevant credential widens the roles you can apply for.
- Verified experience in the right duties. Turnaround, in-service and static-equipment inspection are valued. Make sure your experience is documented and confirmable.
- The type of work. Shutdown and turnaround contracts pay a premium for short, intense periods; permanent roles pay steadier money with benefits.
- Location already in the region. Some adverts prefer candidates already in the country, with a valid residency permit, which can matter as much as one more certificate.
- How you present it. A CV that shows outcomes, not just duties, gets past the first screen. Recruiters spend only seconds on a first pass.
How to use this data in a negotiation
- Benchmark the package, not the basic. Convert housing, transport and food into a monthly value before you compare offers.
- Use more than one source. A salary site, current adverts and two or three conversations with people in similar roles give a far better picture than any single number.
- Ask what the role really requires. If an advert needs three API certifications and you hold two, ask whether the third is required at hire or within a period.

Which Gulf location pays API inspectors the most?
