AMPP SICT Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist is the senior tier of AMPP's internal corrosion certification ladder, sitting above the Internal Corrosion Technologist (ICT) and below the Internal Corrosion Specialist (ICS). AMPP's own exam preparation guide sets the bar plainly. A Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist is expected to have a thorough understanding of electrochemical and corrosion principles, field testing, laboratory analysis, monitoring techniques and mitigation strategies; to be capable of the comprehensive environment assessments needed to develop and manage internal corrosion control programmes; to determine corrective action for high-level internal corrosion problems within a pipeline system; and to conduct and direct all phases of ICDA.
The credential is assessed by a single closed-book theory exam of 75 multiple-choice questions in 2½ hours, weighted heavily towards assessment work - 60% of the paper is Assessment of Internal Corrosion alone. Certification also requires verifiable pipeline internal-corrosion experience, an ethics course, and an approved application. Passing the exam on its own does not certify you.
SICT vs ICT vs Internal Corrosion Specialist (ICS)
The three internal corrosion credentials are a genuine ladder, not variants of one exam. Each requires the one below it or a degree-plus-experience route around it.
Internal Corrosion Technologist (ICT) is the foundational credential, built on the Internal Corrosion for Pipelines Basic (Level 1) course. It certifies working-level competence: recognising mechanisms, applying assessment methods, and carrying out monitoring under direction.
Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist (SICT) is built on the Advanced (Level 2) course. The shift is from performing the work to directing it - selecting between indirect and direct assessment, interpreting ILI data, running all four phases of ICDA, designing monitoring strategy, and judging whether a mitigation programme is actually working.
Internal Corrosion Specialist (ICS) is the top rung and requires an active SICT certification to pursue. AMPP relaunched ICS in August 2026.
One practical difference worth knowing: ICT requires a separate practical exam in addition to its theory paper. SICT's published requirements list a single core exam - the Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist Theory Exam - alongside the experience, ethics and application requirements.

How to Register and What to Expect on Exam Day
Candidates register directly with AMPP, not through EIM or any third-party training provider. EIM provides exam preparation material only; we do not administer the exam, process applications or issue the credential.
The exam is delivered as computer-based testing. Total seat time is 2½ hours, made up of 10 minutes for a tutorial and non-disclosure agreement plus 140 minutes for the exam itself. It is closed-book: the course manual is not available to you during the exam, though a reference PDF of conversions and applicable standards is provided on screen.
You will have access to a TI standard or TI scientific calculator within the exam software. A Pass/Fail result is given at the end of the exam, together with a bar chart showing your strengths and weaknesses against each of the four knowledge domains - which is worth reading carefully if you need to resit.
Certification is awarded only once every requirement is met: the work experience route, the ethics course, the core exam and an approved application. Completing a training course does not by itself entitle you to the certification.

The single most important number on this exam is 60%. Assessment of Internal Corrosion is not merely the largest domain - it is larger than the other three combined, and it is the domain where candidates with real field experience but no structured study most often come unstuck.
Within it, ICDA carries disproportionate weight. AMPP's guide expects you to be familiar with the four-step ICDA process, pre-assessment objectives, feasibility assessment factors, indirect inspection objectives, the application of flow models for system analysis, the detailed examination process, and the post-assessment factors that set reassessment intervals. That is seven separate competencies inside a single sub-domain, and they map directly onto the SP 0110, SP 0116, SP 0206 and SP 0208 methodologies.
The rest of the domain covers choosing between indirect and direct methods and knowing why; gas, liquid and solid analysis; corrosion coupons and electronic probes and the limitations of each; hydrostatic testing parameters and limits; ILI compatibility, design factors and data interpretation; system evaluation strategy; and monitoring strategy including when to recommend corrective action.
